Mr. Biggs in the City - Children's Book Review & Giveaway

Who would have thought that a Sasquatch could be so endearing! 

I'd like to introduce you to a fabulous children's book -
 Mr. Biggs in the City by Kevin Bloomfield

Meet Mr. Biggs - perhaps you know him as Big Foot:

Poor Mr. Biggs is drawn to the city, all he wants is to visit and have some fun (don't we all!). Unfortunately, everything he tries doesn't turn out quite the way he expected.

(I have to share a few of our FAVORITE parts here!)

As you can imagine poor Mr. Biggs is left feeling SAD and disappointed until....
Well, you must read the book to find out - I don't want to spoil Mr. Biggs' story!


The Lil Divas & I feel in love with this story and with Mr. Biggs. They found his adventures hysterical (especially his foray into ballet, his haircut and his attempt at being a policeman - like their daddy!)


Kevin knew what he was doing when he put this book together! During some twitter chat he mentioned that he used his own 2 daughters as his first critics. His rule was "if my kids didn’t laugh at the page then I throw it out and start over".  My girls certainly agreed with them.


My Thoughts:
This book by author/illustrator Kevin Bloomfield is sure to become a favorite of many children. The illustrations are lively and fun with wonderful attention to detail. As an added bonus we enjoyed searching for Mr. Biggs squirrel friend & some others on the pages as we read. You must stop and focus on each page of this story - they really do tell their own little story and are full of so many little details. There's lots to uncover in this book.


As a bilingual Mom - I LOVE that also comes in a Bilingual version that tells the story in both English and Spanish.  There is even a glossary of Spanish words included in the back of the book.


Mr. Biggs provides more than just laughs, he reminds us that it's ok to just be you and that ultimately people will value you for who you are.  He also reminds us not to "judge a book by it's cover!" :)


This is truly a gem of a children's book. We are looking forward to reading Mr. Biggs at the Circus - due out in May 2012!
