UNTrim the Tree - A Sight Word Review & Phonics Learning Game

Christmas has come & gone.
The days after Christmas seem so "deflated" in comparison
to the busy excitement and anticipation leading up to The BIG Day.

One of the things I am NOT fond of is taking down our Christmas Tree.
It seems so final - so sad!

Thinking about taking our tree down soon
gave me the idea for this fun game to play with the Lil Divas -

UNTrim the Christmas Tree -
A Sight Word Review Game

Note: We used Preschool & Kindergarten sight words to play the game but this can be adapted to use letters and numbers for younger children, adding basic addition or subtraction problems would turn this into a fun math game, or you can use picture cards to make a phonics sorting game (I am working on that version too), etc. So many FUN possibilities!

UnTrim the Tree - A Sight Word Review Game

 What You Need:
green felt (or paper)
brown felt (or paper)
ornament cutouts
marker
bag or basket

I bought the cut-outs at a local Teacher Store

 How To Play:

1. Place all ornaments on the tree with words facing down
 No Peeking!

2. Pick an ornament off the tree

3. Read the Sight Word

4. Celebrate a correct response!

5. Add any correctly read sight words to your bag/basket.
I had her place incorrect words to the side to review later.

6. Continue until all ornaments have been picked from the tree

7. Clean up & save for another day!
Everything folds up nicely into the small bag! Hooray!

UNTrim the Christmas Tree -
A Long & Short E Review Game

What You Need:
Phonics Picture Cards -
(I did a goggle image search for free clip art)

How To Play:

1. Pick an ornament

2. Read the picture card
and determine if it's a long or short e word.

3. Put the ornament into the appropriate bag.

4. Continue until all ornaments have been picked off the tree.

I will post the phonics version as soon as I have completed it!

Happy UNTrimming the Tree!
