Easy Spring Wind Chimes

Spring is definitely here (at least by us!) and the days are warm & breezy.

The perfect weather to fly kites, make wind socks and of course...

Wind Chimes 

This is by no means a novel idea,

I remember making wind chimes in elementary school myself.

Yet, like everything else, it was new to the Lil Divas

and they immensely enjoyed making their own wind chimes.

If you haven't made wind chimes with your preschooler 

or elementary aged child - Go for it!

The beading is especially beneficial for preschoolers, 

who are working on their fine motor skills.

You can even incorporate math by having older children string in patterns.

What You Need:

Paper Cups 

paint - we used outdoor acrylic paints

brushes

beads (various sizes, shapes & colors)

colored plastic straws

string

small jingle bells

hole puncher

pipe cleaner

button

pencil

What To Do:

1. Paint cup as desired.

2. Allow to dry. 

3. Cut  5 pieces of string, 1 longer than the others. 

4. Cut plastic straws. The Lil Divas cut various sizes.

5. String beads & pieces of straws together, adding bells sporadically. 

6. Repeat until you have completed 5 strings - this took awhile.

Once you have strung 5 strings (& your paint is dry), 

you are ready to assemble your wind chime.

This is where you will need your hole puncher, pencil, pipe cleaner & button.

7. Punch 4 holes around the cup.

8. Make holder as shown below.

Make loop at the top.

String button through.

Attach longest beaded string & loop up through other button hole.

Secure at top under your loop.

9. Punch hole through top of cup with pencil point.

10. String loop through so that top is secure with button underneath.

11. Attach the 4 other strings.

12. Hang your wind chimes outside & enjoy!

Each time the wind blows or the door opens, 

we hear the soft jingles of the wind chimes.

It is lovely.
