Science Fun: Scented Vinegar and Baking Soda Explosions

Vinegar and Baking Soda Experiments are a favorite in our house. We have done this numerous times and yet it never seems to get old. There is just something about that fizz, bubble and pop of color that keeps the Lil Divas enthralled. I on the other hand, have grown tired of watching the same thing over and over again. So the last time the Littlest Diva asked for some vinegar and baking soda I was thinking of a way to jazz it up. I peered into my cabinet of goodies and spotted some Kool-Aid packets.

I had recently made Kool-Aid Play Dough (which smells absolutely yummy) and wondered if it would work with our vinegar and baking soda experiment so I decided to test it out.

What You Need:

Kool-Aid packets

baking soda

vinegar

Prep - it's best to have a tray or somewhere to work that will contain the mess - you will have spillage depending on the amount of vinegar you use. Of course the more vinegar you use, the bigger the reaction so it's fun to go for it and get messy!

Here's What We Did:
1. I poured 1/2 a packet of kool-aid under the baking soda so it was hidden from view.
2. I used whatever flavors/colors I had on hand (tangerine, cherry, pineapple and grape).
3. I filled a plastic platter with my all the kool-aid and baking soda and poured vinegar into the middle.
4. Using droppers the Lil Divas dropped vinegar onto the baking soda. It took a few tries to get to the color and scent but once we got the reaction - it was a hit!

5. You could smell the fruity scent of the kool-aid, see the colors and hear the fizz, bubble and pop. What a fabulous sensory experience this presented for the Lil Divas!

It's a definite MUST TRY!
